What happens if a Vegetarian eats meat?

It has been a long time since I ate meat. Actually, I was always a big lover of meat, but I decided become vegetarian 2 years ago: for my own health, and to make a statement against animal abuse. However, I wouldn’t want to call myself a strict vegetarian: it is ridiculous to push yourself from one extreme to the other in 1 week I think. So for a couple of months I still ate chicken every now and then. Now I still eat fish 2-3 times a week, but no meat. Slowly getting used to being a full vegetarian and maybe even vegan sometimes. Anyways, I think it’s safe to say that meat is currently out of my system. Which brings us to my story.

The other day I was shooting a ‘Goodmorning’ series in a hotel, and I asked the kitchen to prepare us a pretty breakfast which would look good in the pictures. Since I usually always eat yogurt with fruits for breakfast, I totally forgot that perhaps they would give me something else. So yeah, you can already imagine: they proudly presented me an English breakfast at the door… bacon and sausages included. This brought me to a big dilema… If I eat this, I go against my own principles because I don’t want to hurt animals. But then again, if I don’t eat this, it would feel like the poor thing would have died for nothing. So I decided to make sure it wouldn’t, and make it an actual experiment: what would happen if I would eat meat again after such a long time?

So as you figured, I took a couple of bites from the bacon and the sausages. The first thing I realized was quite surprising for me: in all the years that I ate meat I was always CRAZY about bacon, but now I was eating it and I actually wasn’t that impressed with the taste anymore. Not too long after that, I suddenly started getting a stomach ache, one quite hard to explain. You know how your stomach kinda blows up when you ate something bad? I was getting nauseous and bloated. It was as if my stomach was having a hard time processing the food I just ate, as if the injected hormones and antibiotics were attacking my body. Do you know what it feels like when you stop eating something unhealthy for a while (like bread, sugar, chips, etc.) and then suddenly you try it again? This was exactly how that felt like. This experiment made me realize how toxic meat actually is for us: if you eat it on a regular base your body gets used to it, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy for your body to deal with such toxins each day!

This is definitely something of the last century because people managed to produce meat faster and in bigger quantities by using antibiotics and hormones. So yes, proteins are important for us – and if educated well, you can find those in many other products which are not meat. However, with the current mass production of meat companies use so much terrible chemicals, that meat is doing more harm than good nowadays.  I am not saying everyone should suddenly become vegetarian, but let’s start with eating a bit less meat and being more aware of what you put inside your body.

Bye Blue Monday! How to Beat the Flu

December is here, and so is the cold! The Flu is around the corner but I most definitely do not have time for being sick! That’s why I have been doing some research on how to deal with your (upcoming) Flu with natural ingredients which you can find in your Supermarket. You can thank me later

1. No more Toxins: Keep your Liver Clean

In order to keep your body clean from toxins, your liver has to work hard! By keeping your liver clean, you will be able to flush out toxins more efficiently and thus prevent you from becoming sick! A good way to keep your liver clean is by eating lots of cruciferous vegetables such as kale, broccoli, lettuce and cabbage.

2. Ginger for the Lungshow to beat the flu

Ginger warms the body and helps to break down the accumulation of toxins in the organs, particularly in the lungs and airways. By keeping your airways open, ginger can help to prevent the risk of infection. If you’re having a cold, it’s also great to help you breathe better trough your nose!

3. Lemonwater against Nausea (and more)

In this article, I explained that lemon contains Pottasium, which controls high blood pressure and reduces the effects of nausea. Furthermore, lemon has disinfecting properties, helps cleansing toxins and keeps you hydrated. Personal Favorite Tip: make your own tea with a slice of ginger, the half of a lemon, and a full spoon of honey. This is the ultimate Get Better Recipe, and it tastes delicious too!

4. Saltwater for the Throat

Scratchy throat? Add half a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water and gargle! The salt draws out excess water in your throat’s tissues, reducing the inflammation, and clears mucous and irritants from the back of the throat. The rinse also flushes out bacteria and viruses, which will help in case you’re getting a cold (or if you want to prevent one). Easy but effective, definitely worth a try am I right?

5. Ease your cough with Sage

Sage extracts work as a cough syrup, which helps your body move mucus out of your respiratory tract and helps to calm your cough. As a good alternative to cough syrup from the pharmacy, try a drop of sage extract in tea or hot water (maybe with the ginger/lemon/honey mix?)

As a last note I figured I should also quickly mention other common things I read everywhere about preventing the flu: keep doing (light) exercise, sleep enough, reduce your stress levels, eat healthy, get fresh air, wash your hands regularly & stay hydrated. Sounds good to me, I feel ready for the Winter now!

Lemon Love: 10 different ways to use Lemons for DIY Healthy & Beauty tricks

When life gives you lemons…. Go and give yourself some amazing beauty treatments! I could probably write a full essay on all the benefits of lemons, but first let’s start with some of the basics! Lemons contain lots of Vitamin C, hydrate the skin, boost the metabolism of the body, clean greasy skin, and more! You gotta love Lemons


 1. Make a Sugar Scrub

Mix lemon juice with sugar until you get a nice paste. Scrub it all over your body, take a shower, enjoy a perfectly hydrated baby skin! It couldn’t be easier.

2. Beat those Blackheads

Mix lemon juice with honey and spread it over your face like a mask. Leave it on for five minutes and then wash it off with water. Repeat three times a week to keep those blackheads away.

3. Light it Up

Lemons light up pretty much… everything. Your hair, skin, teeth, nails… you name it! Just spread lemon juice over whatever it is you want to lighten up, leave it there for a while, and wash it off again. Repeat a couple times a week and you will get some amazing results very soon!

4. Be gone Shiny Skin!

Get rid of that shiny skin by padding some lemon juice with water on your T-zone with a tissue: it’s great for reducing excess oil.

5. Baby Feet

Lemon juice is great for feet, as it will help soften rough skin on the bottom and also kill bacteria that builds up under your toenails. To make the foot soak, get a large bowl and combine three cups of lemon juice, six cups of water, 3 tablespoons of cinnamon powder, and one cup of coconut milk. Soak your feet in the bowl for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water.lemonlove

Lemon contains Potassium which controls high blood pressure and reduces the effect of nausea and dizziness. Who knew right?!

7. Bloody Cleanse

Nowadays people consume lots of junkfood or other preservatives and artificial flavors. This builds up toxins in the blood and body…. Not good! BUT, if you consume lemonwater on a daily basis it will help you purifying your blood!
