5 things succesful influencers do

Last week I wrote an article about what succesful people DON’T do. So you might wonder: what do they do instead? I’ve been working with many influencers and brands in the past couple of months since I started to work for Sanoma, and it became quite easy to pick out the ones that are pleasant to work with and the ones which aren’t. Keep reading!

1. Focus on quality content

If you want brands to keep coming back to you, you have to give them a reason! Don’t try to get off easy by taking one single picture from your phone, but actually try to make a picture as good as it can be. I often send a selection of 3 pictures to the brand, from which they can choose the one they like most.

2. Stay true to yourself

The #1 rule in inlfuencer world: don’t work with brand you don’t have a match with. Agencies will actually appreciate the fact that you say no if you’re not feeling it. Besides, the fact that you don’t like a brand will show in your results AND if your followers know you, they will see that you are being inauthentic. 

3. Be Pro-active – Always think 5 steps ahead

Big companies often make year plannings for their collaborations, so make sure to think ahead just like they do. Come up with cool projects/ concepts and share your ideas with brands that make a good match. To give a more specific  timeline: you need to start coming up with your pro-active project AT LEAST 3 months before the actual excecution.

4. Work on professional communication

Invest in learning how to write professional (but kind) e-mails and how to present yourself. If you have a concept that you want to pitch, create a small mediakit or at least a stylish looking powerpoint. These brands are supposed to invest money in you, so you have to prove to them you are a professional and that you’re worth their investment.

5. Deliver – Work on your customer service

This kinda brings me back to the blog of last week. Lots of influencers are busy or start to get arrogant as soon as they grow in followers, which often results in bad communication or lazy results. You grew because you worked hard so don’t ruin that now. Consider brands as your clients, and you know what they say: client is king. Lots of brands are still unfamiliar with working with influencers so just be patient and professional with them: send them a couple of picture options before posting, allow them to have 1 feedback round and follow the deadlines.
